The Routes

The Estuary Challenge, which will take place for the seventh time on Saturday 9th June 2018, has a choice of two cycles. The longer route is a 100km cycle in West Clare which brings riders from Shannon Gaels GAA pitch in Labasheeda westwards to Carrigaholt before returning to Shannon Gaels GAA Pitch along the Shannon Estuary, passing through Knock, Killimer, Cappa, Kilrush, Carrigaholt, Kilkee, Doonbeg, Cree, and Kilmurry McMahon. There is also a more leisurely 50km cycle for the less adventurous. This route also starts and finishes at Shannon Gaels GAA Pitch, while passing through Knock, Killimer, Cappa, Kilrush, Cooraclare and Kilmurry McMahon. The Cycle Routes

There will be a food stop approximately half way through the route of the Estuary 100 cycle at Carrigaholt (47km). Cyclists will be provided with fruit, sandwiches and confectionary at this stop. There will also be water stations at Cappa (23 km) and Cree (80km).

On the Estuary 50, there will be a food stop at Cooraclare (30km) and a water station at Cappa (23km). There will also be refreshments at the end of the cycles at Shannon Gaels GAA Pitch.


There will be shower and changing facilities provided at Shannon Gaels clubhouse at the start/finish point.
