The Great Railway Cycle

Following in the tracks of The Bandon & South Coast Railway
This year’s charity cycle follows the general route of the Bandon and South Coast Railway which closed in 1961 and the name of the event has changed from the Carrigaline Lions Cycle Classic to The Great Railway Cycle. Over its 25 year history, the event has raised more than €675,000 for charity.
The Great Railway Cycle 2017 takes place on Saturday, 30th September.
•The cycle is a one-day event with distance options of 60km and 100km
•Starting and finishing in Carrigaline at the Youth Centre
•Starting time 10am (Check-in open from 9am)
•100km Route: Carrigaline – Innishannon – Bandon – Ballinspittle – Timoleague – Balinascarthy – Bandon – Inishannon – Carrigaline
This cycling event was started in 1991 and has so far raised over €675,000 for various charities. Not bad for a fun event! Worthy beneficiaries include Marymount Hospice, ARC Cancer Support, Cork University Hospital, Carrigaline Senior Citizens, our own Youth Centre Project which opened in 2015 on Church Road in Carrigaline. The main sponsor is Victoria Cross Cycles to whom we are very grateful.
